Rostock & Warnemünde

Hanseatic Metropolis with Baltic Sea Beach and Coastal Forest

The Hanseatic city of Rostock combines maritime city flair, the finest sandy beaches and tranquility in nature.

The Hanseatic and university city of Rostock is an exciting destination for autumn vacationers who like to enjoy culinary, © TMV/Gänsicke

Historic old town with brick churches, gabled houses and small alleyways

In the city center, the spruced-up gabled houses are densely packed, in between the idyllic Convent of the Holy Cross with the Museum of Cultural History and the oldest university in Northern Europe. Many shops, boutiques, cafés and restaurants are lined up along the narrow streets and around Kröpeliner Strasse. The market square is adorned with the baroque-clad sieve pink town hall. Above all, the large brick churches and all around the city wall with its mighty gates and quiet ramparts.

Maritime flair in Rostock's city harbor

The city harbor with its wide waterfront promenade is just a few minutes away from the city. With its restaurants, bars and old warehouses, it is the perfect destination for a stroll, a meal or a boat trip.

Seaside resort Warnemünde

At the point where the Warnow flows into the Baltic Sea lies Rostock's "beautiful daughter", the seaside resort of Warnemünde. In the former fishing village, cruise ships are anchored alongside idyllic captains' boats and fishing boats. The Alte Strom and the promenade invite you to stroll and linger. The kilometer-long, white sandy beach behind the Baltic Sea dunes and the seaside resort's Bädervillen are not just an invitation to come to Warnemünde in summer.

Rostocker Heide - active recreation in nature

The Rostock Heath opens up to the east of the Warnow, directly behind the dunes. The primeval coastal forest is home to numerous animal and plant species and is ideal for hiking and cycling along the Ostseeküsten-Radweg. The mild, stimulating climate of the Baltic Sea also promotes physical well-being.
