The most imposing residences have been left behind by the Dukes of Mecklenburg: The Renaissance palace of Güstrow, the baroque complex of the town of Ludwigslust, the Schloss Schwerin as a prime example of romantic historicism and the classicist palace of Hohenzieritz were built primarily for representative purposes . Today, many former residences of princes and landed gentry offer stylishly furnished apartments and rooms, often with beautiful terraces and gardens. The Gutshof Liepen, with its country-style rooms, works sustainably and refines the restaurant's cuisine with herbs and salads from its own harvest. The moated castle Quilow, a Renaissance building and monument of national value, was renovated and reopened in 2020 for exhibitions, concerts, readings and workshops.
