Open Monument Day is always held on the 2nd Sunday in September.
On this day, many of the otherwise inaccessible monuments are open and can be visited as part of guided tours and exhibitions. Be sure to make a note of this date!

St. Mary's Church is the oldest preserved building on the Island of Rügen and was consecrated as a Romanesque palatine and monastery church in 1193 together with the monastery located next to it. First cited at the end of the 12th century, castle Penkun is nowadays one of the last preserved castles once owned by the dukes of Pomerania. The Festival Winter of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival unfolds with its Advent and Christmas concerts for musical enjoyment in a historic castle setting.
