One of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's greatest treasures is the 1,900 kilometers of Baltic Sea coastline. In summer, its beaches are used for swimming, digging, sunbathing and surfing. For all those who want to experience the highlight of horse riding on the beach in the summer months, there are a few horse beaches and riding stables that make this possible. Riding on the beach is most enjoyable in the months between October and April. This is when several beaches along the Baltic coast are open to horse and rider. It goes without saying that mutual respect and the removal of any dirt caused by the animals are required.
Seasonal beach riding
From late fall to spring, beach sections on the island of Usedom are open for horseback riding in places like Zinnowitz and Trassenheide. Pferdefreunde can enjoy rides through the Baltic Sea landscape in the Baltic Sea resorts on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula with the old artists' colony of Ahrenshoop, Dierhagen, Prerow, Wustrow and Zingst. In some places, beach riding is permitted all year round. Other communities have found a compromise to welcome horses in the summer too: They invite bathers to their beaches during the day and horse riders in the evening and early morning.
All-year-round beach riding
All-year-round beach rides are possible in the Rostock Heath. Whether on a guided ride or on your own, take advantage of the huge mixed forest with reed beds, moors and an extensive network of bridleways and carriage paths that border directly on the Baltic Sea. It is a pleasure to ride out of the shade of the trees towards the open sea, into the gradually deepening Baltic Sea.
Far away from large towns and villages, there are wonderful, often deserted places. And because it feels so good to plunge into the cool waters on your own or simply sit on the edge of the dunes for a while and let the sun shine on your nose, there is even a paddock where the horses can wait for their riders in peace and quiet and take a breather. Beach riding is also permitted all year round in Börgerende and not far from Pötenitz near Dassow on the Mecklenburg Baltic Sea.
Riding vacation on the Baltic Sea
The Reiterhof Stuthof offers beach rides through the Rostock Heath all year round. Between Nienhagen and Börgerende, the Riding Camp Börgerende also offers rides on the natural beach all year round. However, between October and April in particular, riding stables located near the Baltic Sea like to take their guests on rides to the beach. On Usedom, for example, there is the Reiterhof Sallenthin or the Reiterhof Brauns.
