Off into the floods

With more than 2,000 km of coastline and more than 2,000 lakes, the vacation state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is famous for its unique water landscapes that attract visitors eager to experience its white beaches. Bathers get their money’s worth when swimming in salty sea water and as they enjoy the fine sandy beaches in front of rugged cliffs. Many beaches along the Baltic coast and on the islands have a particularly shallow water entrance and are fairly safe even for the inexperienced beginners. Barrier free beach access also allows for the guests with limited mobility to enjoy their beach days.

Various sporting opportunities are equally available both on the beach and in the water. The coastal beaches under the bright sun and clear blue sky provides an equally good place for both volleyball and beach soccer. Those who prefer sailing can get on their costs by enjoying the cool waters of the Baltic Sea and the numerous lakes in the Lake District. The fairly calm sea provides excellent background for stand up paddlers and even kite surfers.

The inland area invites visitors to enjoy swimming in the crystal-clear lakes and rivers. Bathing here is guaranteed to be fun, since the quality of the water is exceptionally good. In addition, the bathing spots in the vacation region attract with child-friendly beach sections, best comfort and service stations. Travellers can find an overview of the best bathing spots on the lakes and on the beaches of the Baltic Sea via appropriate apps.

Whether it's building sand castles, romping around or playing ball - a good mood comes up easily on a beach vacation in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. And if the weather doesn't suit to go sunbathing, you can go on a treasure hunt in rubber boots and a raincoat to find amber, shells or hagstones along the waterline.

The thrills of beach and water sports - Adrenaline kick guaranteed!

Beach & water sports provide thrills

But there is more to experience at the Baltic Sea - those who like to be active will find numerous offers at Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's coasts and lakes to really let off steam. There is hardly any other place in Germany where a beach vacation can be as varied as here.

Water sports enthusiasts can demonstrate their skills while windsurfing or kitesurfing on the Baltic Sea, on the inland lakes and Bodden, or enjoy their time on the water even without wind while stand-up paddling. With lagoons like the Salzhaff and Lake Koos, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a paradise for water sports acrobats.

Recreationist also benefit from the Baltic Sea breeze. Both the Baltic Sea and the state's 2,000 lakes are the perfect place for extensive sailing trips. Beach volleyball and beach soccer at the AOK Active Beach Warnemünde and along the entire Baltic Sea coast round out the sports offerings for summer vacations on the beach.

A coastal hike up to the lighthouses is another rewarding activity. The climb is worth it for the magnificent view into the distance, the height making the people below seem no bigger than ants. A number of extraordinarily long piers in the seaside resorts jut far into the sea and invite you to stroll. The seaside resorts captivate attention with their snow-white villas, which are part of the unique spa architecture. If watching is not enough, you can even set sail with professional sailors, who will often welcome fellow passengers on the boats.
