An exhibition of paintings by Cyrus Mawlaee from Bergen on Rügen.
An exhibition at the Kleine Interkulturelle Galerie (Waldemarstr. 32, 18057 Rostock) organized by migra e.V. in cooperation with the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Center for Cultural Participation. The center is sponsored by KulturLand MV. The exhibition is funded by the Ministry of Science, Culture, Federal and European Affairs of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania using funds from the Participation Fund.
The opening will take place on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., with artist Cyrus Mawlaee in attendance. Marlen Kriemann from the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Center for Cultural Participation and Brigitte Pleß from the board of migra e.V. will jointly open the exhibition. The exhibition opening will feature musical accompaniment.
Cyrus Mawlaee was born in Afghanistan in 1976 and earned a degree in painting from the University of Kabul. He was actively involved in both teaching and training young artists in the fields of visual arts and painting. In Afghanistan, he regularly participated in the annual exhibitions of faculty and students at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Kabul, where he presented his works. After the Taliban seized power, Cyrus Mawlaee emigrated to Germany in 2023 and is now exhibiting his paintings outside Afghanistan for the first time.
The exhibition “Between Shadow and Color” presents a series of graphic and poster-style works that explore visual expression, form, color, and emotion. Shadow and color are not merely artistic elements here, but also means of depicting human experiences and feelings.
“My works reflect my personal history, my cultural roots, and the experiences of migration and starting over. My goal is to create a dialogue between the image and the viewer and to open up space for personal interpretations.”
The exhibition is open to the public free of charge from September 14 through December 18, 2026, every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Group tours are also available; please contact us in advance.
