Playwright Volker Heymann has written a full-length play based on and revolving around the legendary sketch *Dinner for One*.
A theater director is holding auditions for the roles of Miss Sophie and her butler James. Elvira and Klaus, an unspeakably disastrous duo, apply for the parts and act out a ludicrous case of performance anxiety on stage. Roles and personal lives get wildly mixed up. One moment James and Miss Sophie are in blissful harmony; the next, they’re a bickering married couple who’ve lost all control. A tough nut to crack for the director. But in the end, everyone pulls together and stages the sketch *Dinner for One* just as it’s known from television. However, the director can’t prevent the two neurotics from getting a little out of hand in the process...
