Vorpommern

Pole of Tranquility on the Baltic Sea

Wide sandy beaches, natural beaches and hidden bathing bays with waves and meadows, shells and reeds line Strelasund, Bodden, Peenestrom and Stettiner Haff. The harbor towns and fishing villages in the Western Pomerania region spread maritime romance.

A quiet evening on the water: two people paddle through the wide waters of Western Pomerania at sunset, surrounded by nature and silence.

Inland, rivers such as the Peene, Recknitz and Tollense wind their way through a landscape reminiscent of times gone by. Avenues make up a large part of the country lanes through what was once the Swedish and later the Prussian province of Western Pomerania. You can see them behind the shady rows of trees: Old Gutshäuser und Schlösser, finely spruced up, or restored village churches and overgrown ruins. They are picturesque milestones between traditional Hanseatic towns and sleepy villages.

If you are drawn out into pure nature, you should pay a visit to the nature parks „Flusslandschaft Peenetal“ and „Stettiner Haff“ during your vacation in Western Pomerania – in autumn, they become the playground of the impressive roaming deer and .

In addition to the oases of peace on the sandy beaches, bays and rivers of the region, a vacation in Western Pomerania also has a lot to offer in terms of culture and history: Artists such as were inspired by the warm colors and picturesque, romantic landscapes of Western Pomerania. The ruins of the Eldena monastery near the Hanseatic city of Greifswald were among his favorite motifs. Today, his paintings can be found in the Pomeranian State Museum in the painter's birthplace, while the museum in the Hanseatic town of Anklam is dedicated to aviation pioneer Otto Lilienthal.

The vacation experts for Western Pomerania

Brick Gothic and landscapes

the most beautiful places in Western Pomerania

University and Hanseatic City of Greifswald

The Hanseatic city of Greifswald, including the monastery ruins in the Eldena district, was the birthplace of the artist Caspar David Friedrich and the inspiration for many of his most famous works of art. Those interested in art and culture can follow in the footsteps of the famous painter and admire exhibits from prehistory and early history, the Hanseatic period and Swedish and Prussian rule in Western Pomerania in the Pomeranian State Museum alongside Friedrich's paintings.

Hanseatic city of Stralsund

As the oldest city in Pomerania, Stralsund achieved great wealth through international trade during the Hanseatic period. Even today, magnificent brick buildings are a reminder of the city's glorious past and have been protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2002. In addition to the architectural highlights, holidaymakers can relax at the Stralsund lido and on the Sundpromenade - the latter is also ideal for leisurely walks and cycling excursions.

Seebad Ueckermünde

Ueckermünde stands for a certain sense of home, for peace, tranquillity and enjoyment. On a guided tour through the historic alleyways of this tranquil little town, visitors learn about its varied history with Prussian, Swedish and Pomeranian influences. Families should take a close look along the fairy tale trail from Ueckermünde's old town to the beach, as well-known figures from the Grimm Brothers adorn the path.

Recreation area Mönkebude

Travellers can relax and enjoy freshly caught fish in the state-approved resort of Mönkebude. Long sandy beaches invite you to stroll and relax, while the surrounding area along the Szczecin Lagoon can be explored on numerous cycling and hiking trails.

of aviation pioneers, sea creatures and the Hanseatic art of sailing

Nature park „Am Stettiner Haff“

For nature lovers, the nature park „Am Stettiner Haff“ in Altwarp is well worth a visit. The typical pre-Pomeranian landscape of heathland, sand and coastal areas is home to rare bird species such as peregrine falcons and lesser spotted eagles. With a bit of luck, otters can be observed up close on a canoe or raft trip on the River Uecker.

OZEANEUM Stralsund

The OZEANEUM Stralsund gives visitors of all ages a glimpse into the depths of the sea. There are numerous sea creatures to marvel at in over 50 aquariums and clumsy Humboldt penguins provide entertainment on the museum's roof terrace. In contrast, you feel tiny next to the true-to-life whale replicas in the OZEANEUM.

Otto Lilienthal Museum

The Otto Lilienthal Museum is dedicated to the famous Anklam aviation pioneer Otto Lilienthal. The multi-award-winning museum tells the story of the dream of flight in its exhibition and shows the development of aircraft technology as well as several replicas of Lilienthal's flying machines.

UCRA – the Pomeranian cog

The UCRA is a floating museum that gives history buffs and boat enthusiasts an authentic insight into the Hanseatic era. On a historic sailing ship, passengers become crew members themselves and can actively participate in the tasks on board under the instruction of the ship's crew.
