The Kuhtor is the oldest preserved building in Rostock and the oldest city gate in northern Germany.
In 1262 the gate tower was first mentioned in documents. In 1942 it was hit by bombs.In 1984 the Kuhtor was reconstructed. Until 2009, the Literaturhaus Rostock was based here.
