Traditional family recipes, glass bakery, café
The aroma of freshly baked bread is as much a part of Plau am See as water is to the Müritz region. For more than 180 years, the Behrens Bakery has stood for authentic baking craftsmanship, passed down with passion and care across eight generations. Here, breads, rolls, and cakes are made according to traditional family recipes—with plenty of time, experience, and a knack for selecting the finest ingredients.
“Baking is more than a profession—it’s a passion you can taste.” This philosophy continues to guide the Behrens family’s work to this day. Visitors experience this in a particularly impressive way in the demonstration bakery. Here, the craft comes to life: dough is kneaded, loaves are shaped, and baked to a golden brown—a fascinating glimpse behind the scenes that delights young and old alike.
Among the specialities are Mecklenburg black bread, made according to an original recipe from 1850, as well as creative seaweed baked goods that uniquely combine tradition and innovation.
Anyone strolling through the historic old town of Plau am See shouldn’t miss a visit to Behrens. Whether for a leisurely breakfast, a sweet coffee break, or simply to enjoy the unmistakable aroma of fresh baked goods—every visit here becomes a taste of Mecklenburg’s culture of indulgence. Or, to put it with a wink: “You can’t buy happiness—but bread fresh from the oven comes surprisingly close.”
