Exhibitions and Galleries, Monuments and Sights, Museums, family-friendly

The building was inaugurated in 1957 as a "movie palace", but today presents objects from past times.

The former cinema and event building now houses a museum on the everyday history of the GDR. On December 14, 1957, the "Film-Palast" was ceremoniously opened and handed over with the showing of the Soviet film work "The Prologue". At that time, the painter and graphic artist Sieghard Dittner was invited as a guest of honor, who had created a mural for the entrance hall. Since 2008, his works can be admired in the art museum at the monastery of the island town of Malchow.

Since October 1999, the exhibition has been constantly expanded and restaged. In the meantime, one can experience everyday life in the GDR in a very diverse way and find interesting things on a variety of topics. Whether cinema, wedding, vacations or technology, there is something for every passion.

The expansion of the building and the large collection make it possible to constantly change the exhibition. In the meantime, visitors can even be transported back to children's land and take a curious look at various living areas of the 60s, 70s and 80s.
