Following his César Award-winning nature documentary *The Snow Leopard* (2021), French wildlife photographer and documentary filmmaker Vincent Munier succeeds with *The Whisper of the Forests* (2025) in to capture not only the visual splendor but also the poetic sounds of the forest. His film is an ode to the flora and fauna of the Vosges Mountains, building a bridge between father, son, and grandson; between humans and nature; between photography and film; between day and night; and between the personal and the universal.
Patience is the most important quality Michel Munier must bring with him on his forays deep into the ancient, moss-covered forests of the Vosges. Equipped with a backpack, a walking stick, and a warm jacket, he is drawn time and again deep into the silence of the forest, to a very special place: a fir tree that has become his hideout. Beneath its branches, the old man seems to merge with nature. He has spent over eight hundred nights there, listening and observing—always on the lookout for foxes, roe deer, red deer, lynx, and the mysterious king of the forest, the capercaillie. His son, Vincent Munier, has shared his father’s fascination since he was twelve. From him, he has learned to read the animals’ tracks and knows the places where they feed, hunt, build their nests, and sleep. Together with Vincent’s son, Simon Munier, the family trio embarks on a journey into the breathtaking beauty of nature…
