Forget the hustle and bustle and stress of everyday life and let yourself be enchanted by the special charm of Badow. Enjoy the pristine nature of Mecklenburg in an old estate village on the edge of the Schaalsee biosphere reserve.
The former manor house can look back on an eventful history. The Badow manor was first mentioned in the church records of Ratzeburg in 1230. After the old neoclassical manor house burned down on January 25, 1905, the von Döring family, who had owned the estate since 1700, had the present neo-baroque building constructed on the 17th century cellar vaults according to plans by architect Paul Korff. The park belonging to the house was probably designed in the 19th century by Theodor Klett, the Schwerin court gardener. Even today, the lime and chestnut avenues, ancient oaks, monumental yews and rhododendrons, as well as some dendrological features such as a red-leaved English oak, are still impressive. Thanks to its location, Badow is the ideal starting point for your vacation activities - whether you want to explore the neighboring UNESCO biosphere reserve Schaalsee or visit the nearby World Heritage cities of Lübeck, Schwerin or Wismar. The castles of Ludwigslust and Bothmer, as well as the Baltic resorts of Boltenhagen and Groß Schwansee, are also within easy reach by car. Horses have always played a role in Badow, in the past as working animals on the estate and as a means of transportation in front of the carriage and under the saddle, today as leisure partners. Badow is home to a small herd of horses. A special feature of Badow is the collection of historic carriages. The surrounding meadows and forests invite you to go for long rides.
