St. George's Church is one of the three large main churches in Wismar and an outstanding architectural monument of North German brick Gothic. It was once the place of worship for craftsmen and tradesmen. The origins of St. George's lie in the 13th century. Its construction thus falls into the turbulent time of the late Middle Ages and the Reformation.

The Fangelturm in Malchin is a defensive tower of the town wall that surrounded the town. Due to its height and the town's location on the border with Pomerania, it served as a watchtower. It dates back to the 15th century and a Renaissance gable was added in the second half of the 16th century. The building is a six-storey brick structure with a gabled roof. The tower is around 35 meters high and was completely renovated in 1996. Although it was originally built as a defense tower, it takes its name from its later use as a prison (Fangelturm).

The Kalensche Tor is one of the four gates of the fortifications that surrounded the town of Malchin in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is the best-preserved gate of the town fortifications. The building is a richly structured Gothic brick structure from the 15th century with a monopitch roof and partially glazed tiles. It was built as a double gate. Partial demolition began in 1837. The main gate was torn down to make the passageway higher. It was used as a prison until the 19th century and was restored in 1900. Today, the Kalen Gate is one of the city's most important sights.

The former Romanesque-style church was almost completely destroyed in a major town fire in 1397. On June 6, 1397, Johann, Bishop of Garda and auxiliary bishop of the absent Johann von Camin, who was present in Malchin, granted the burnt-down St. John's Church in Malchin an indulgence "for rebuilding and equipping" in order to quickly promote the rebuilding of the church. The new church building was consecrated as early as 1440.
