In the exhibition context, the term refers to the artist's two creative phases, which are presented "together" but from different periods. This suggests that there is an inner continuity in the artist's work, two forms of expression, but one consciousness.
SELBANDER two times a work with works by Udo Dettmann
In the 1980s, the artist combined a gestural realism in his painting with expressive abstract tendencies of a modernism that approached the 'Neue Wilde' of the time on the one hand and had a penchant for the informal on the other: until 1987/88. As part of a scholarship at the Künstlerhaus Lauenburg/Elbe, he developed his own artistic solutions to the problem of spatial effects in painting, which resulted in a distance and opposition to pure panel painting. Works from both creative phases are juxtaposed in this exhibition.
