Creating new experiences in the artistic shaping of the voice
Stäko 2026 | "every voice counts - theater pedagogical practices of listening" | "Voices - all voices count"
Every voice counts - that's what democratic diversity is all about. This demand is central to theater pedagogy and is linked to discourses on participation and involvement, polyphony and empowerment, both locally and globally.
Every voice counts - and it also tells: wants to be heard in its own sound, in the affects that resonate, in the stories that they bring with them, that have inscribed themselves in the voices.
With this in mind, the Rostock Stäko asks: "Whose voice is heard? How are voices heard?" - and combines this with artistic voice practices on the one hand, and with discourses on feminist, intergenerational, transcultural and transdifferent perspectives on the other.
Voices are often less consciously designed in theater pedagogy than other theatrical means. We would therefore like to create new experiences in the artistic design of voice and develop the power of reflection that lies in working with voice.
- How can we expand voice and narratives as performative and artistic-pedagogical design tools for theater pedagogy?
- How can people articulate themselves and make themselves heard, raise their voices, get involved in social processes and enter into an exchange with one another?
- How can we facilitate access to our own voice? What does it take to have your own voice, to give it resonance and to express yourself?
- How can we learn to listen to each other and what aesthetic means help us to do so?
The Stäko is organized by the theater pedagogy department of the hmt Rostock with the involvement of the two third-party funded projects Fokus Stimme and Künstlerische Biographien-Transkulturell, funded by the Stiftung Innovation in der Hochschullehre. The results of these projects will be presented with the premiere of a documentary film made by three international student teams and the testing of a set of cards for theater pedagogical work with voice and speech.
