With *Die Welt des Fischbrötchens* (The World of the Fish Sandwich), Gottfried Haufe has written an encyclopedia of this North German national dish, refreshingly illustrated by street artist Sebastian Volgmann.
After reading *Die Welt des Fischbrötchens*, there’s nothing left to learn on the subject: The first non-fiction book about this culinary gem contains interesting facts about herring, cod, and other fish, as well as about seagulls as the natural enemies of fish and rolls. It also offers fascinating insights into the cultural history of humanity as it relates to the consumption of seafood in combination with baked goods.
Also sharing their thoughts are fish sandwich fans Marteria (rapper and former fish sandwich vendor at the Ostseestadion) and Monchi (frontman of Feine Sahne Fischfilet), crew members from fish-sandwich hotspots in Warnemünde, Heringsdorf, Baabe, and Stralsund, as well as the director of the Thünen Institute of Baltic Sea Fisheries.
