The finale of the "Elements" cycle explores how we treat the Earth—an element that is also a planet, and thus our home.
The Earth is a corrective, an inspiration—it is our home. We come from it, and to it we return. Without it, we are lost. Anyone who engages with the Earth—with its breathtaking vastness, its perfectly balanced ecosystems, its almost incomprehensible timescales of formation—anyone who truly immerses themselves in these dimensions, feels: We are small. We have everything to learn from it. And we rarely truly listen to it.
Spanning the four and a half billion years of its history all the way to the most pressing questions of our time, the Deutsche Tanzkompanie draws a broad arc in the finale of its “Elements” cycle. In this work, the Earth appears both as an element and as a planet. And formally, too, the evening dares to adopt a dual approach: through collaboration with two choreographers, two independent pieces emerge that pose the same questions in different ways:
How must we treat the Earth so that it remains our home? So that we can continue to feel small—and, at best, safe—in its moving presence? What role do we have to play in its magnificent history? And what is its own answer to these questions of ours?
