Play by Marius von Mayenburg / A play based on the novel by Jérôme Leroy
The double premiere“Egal / Der Block”shines a spotlight on two very different couples.
In the sophisticated chamber play “Egal,” Simone and Erik’s living room becomes the setting for a highly comical yet profoundly dark struggle for a radically equal marriage. Here, every word can lead to an explosion, and every ring of the phone can literally turn the situation upside down.
In the adaptation of the crime novel “Der Block,” we journey through a fateful night in Paris. The “Patriotic Bloc” is on the verge of seizing power in France, and while Antoine prepares to serve as a minister of state in the first far-right government, his closest confidant, Stanko—long the head of the party’s paramilitary security force—is to be eliminated that very night. “Der Block” traces the life paths of the two men and confronts them in a gripping way with the question of “the Other.”
