Anatevka returns to the Volkstheater stage! The story of the Ukrainian-Jewish village and its deeply human inhabitants seeking their modest happiness is timeless. The musical's hits are of course also timeless, such as If I were rich one day by Tevje, probably the most famous milkman in the world. Or the opening chorus Tradition. However, the tradition of the village community is shaken, because Tevje's five daughters actually want to marry whoever they love, and not the groom who has been chosen for them. Has the father of the family finally had his day as a well-meaning patriarch? Will the daughters be happy? How will the butcher Lazar Wolf deal with the embarrassment of his already announced wedding being called off? And what will become of the matchmaker Jente? In the end, it no longer matters, because the tradition is shaken even more: the new political circumstances will have the last word.
Ulrich Wiggers, a celebrated actor, has been one of the most successful musical directors for years and is coming to Rostock for the first time for Anatevka.
