Foundation Meeting Place for Jewish History and Culture in Rostock
The most important task of the Foundation / Meeting Place for Jewish History and Culture in Rostock is to impart knowledge about Jewish history and culture in order to effectively combat anti-Semitism and intolerance. A further focus is placed on children's and youth work. For those interested, there is a library open to the public in the house with a special focus on Jewish history. 12 in-house publications on various topics have been published to date and are available for purchase in the house. The house regularly organizes readings, concerts, lectures, but also thematic exhibitions, e.g. about almost forgotten Jewish personalities from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
However, the strongest impression is left by the Stolpersteine (stumbling stones), which have been placed in the sidewalk in front of the former homes of Holocaust victims in the Hanseatic city of Rostock since 2001. These have been donated by private individuals and companies.
The work of the Max Samuel House is accompanied by two honorary bodies - a foundation board and a board of trustees. In addition, the Verein der Freunde und Förderer des Max-Samuel-Hauses e.V. (Association of Friends and Sponsors of the Max Samuel House) is involved.
