Christmas comedy for adults based on Friedrich Wolf
St. Nicholas Day at the Löwenhaupts’. Kammersänger Luitpold Löwenhaupt is currently in the final rehearsals for the new production, and his wife Gerlinde, a teacher, has her hands full as well. Amid all the hustle and bustle, they’ve forgotten to fill their children’s—Lohengrin and Isolde’s—St. Nicholas boots. Out of embarrassment, Father Löwenhaupt promises a special surprise. He buys a live goose from an organic farmer—and an axe to go with it—since the bird is meant to be the Christmas roast. Auguste settles into life at the Löwenhaupt household; the children take her for walks on a leash, she occasionally chatters about life on the organic farm, and she even chases away a burglar. But the day that is supposed to be her last is drawing ever closer. Löwenhaupt pulls out the axe, but he can’t bring himself to kill her. Are sleeping pills the solution? Temporarily, yes. But Auguste wakes up, and in the end, she appears under the Christmas tree wearing a sweater. And what’s on the menu for the festive meal?
