"Vibrant places, strong communities"
On Saturday, May 9, 2026, the Barlach town of Güstrow invites you to the market from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and takes part in the nationwide urban development day under the motto "Vibrant places, strong communities". The focus is on the market redevelopment, which is currently in its final stages and is having a lasting impact on the face of the town center.
The event will kick off at 10:30 a.m. with the switching on of the Borwin Fountain on the Pferdemarkt. At 11 a.m., Mayor Sascha Zimmermann will officially open the Day of Urban Development on the market square. The water feature will then be put into operation for the first time. It is a visible sign that the redesigned urban space is gradually being filled with life again.
The day offers the opportunity to experience the changes on the market directly and to learn more about the background to the redevelopment. It is worth taking a look at the town hall, where there will be exhibitions on the Ratswaage, the Ratsweinkeller and the rose garden, as well as a specialist lecture on the archaeological results of the market redevelopment at 1 pm. BIG-BAU will be presenting insights into the development of the market at the market, making it clear how closely history and the present are linked at this central location.
