To mark Open Monument Day®, the Bergen City Museum on Rügen will be open on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and welcomes visitors. The Baroque building, which is a designated historic landmark, was constructed in the first half of the 18th century as a residence for the women of the “Noble Convent” in Bergen and today houses not only private apartments but also the City Museum.
The permanent exhibition “From the Stone Age to the City,” featuring high-quality replicas of the “Blauzahn Treasure,” the medieval linen cloth with its pictorial depictions in silk and linen, and the impressive, gilded replica of a Romanesque chalice from St. Mary’s Church in Bergen, invites visitors to take a leisurely stroll through the history of Bergen and the Island of Rügen. In addition, the special exhibition “Conny Möller, Art & More” entices visitors one last time with its atmospheric paintings that evoke a longing for the sea and the Island of Rügen.
The extended exhibition “War and Memory,” drawn from the museum’s collection, uses selected artifacts, historical maps, engravings, and field post letters to highlight wartime events on and around the Island of Rügen, as well as the memories associated with them.
