For many people in East Germany, fond memories from their childhood and youth are inextricably linked with East German rock. Initially rejected by the political leadership as "too wild", later presented as a figurehead, the artists and performers of the East German rock scene found themselves from the very beginning in a field of tension between the limits of what could be said and the desire for change, between German-language pop songs and electric guitar & synthesizer. This is probably one of the reasons why their music appealed to a large audience. And while nowadays many of the songs that were so successful back then seem to play a subordinate role at best on radio and television, the demand for East German rock live events is unbroken.
The band "Rostrock" wants to give this genre the attention it deserves. The members are students in the pop department of the Rostock University of Music and Drama and have individual performance experience in a wide range of styles from rock, pop and singer-songwriter to jazz and classical music. In addition to their joint studies, they share a high standard of musical quality and professionalism and - their love of Eastern rock.
