Tour of hmt Rostock
11 a.m.: “25 Years at the hmt Rostock’s St. Katharinenstift Campus.” Twenty-five years ago, in the spring of 2001, the university moved into the former St. Katharinenstift. This made a long-cherished dream come true: to breathe new life into the abandoned monastery building in the eastern part of the Old Town. That is why the university is opening its doors on Open Monument Day to give visitors a chance to experience the modern use of one of the city’s oldest buildings. | 2:00 p.m.: “800 Years of Francis of Assisi.” In October 1226—800 years ago—Francis of Assisi died at the age of 45. Even during the founder’s lifetime, there were already approximately 150 Franciscan monasteries spread across Europe. In the first third of the 13th century, the first friars arrived via Lübeck in the newly founded city of Rostock. The Franciscan history of what is now the home of the University of Music and Theater is still clearly evident and, in many ways, shapes university life. A guided tour will be held to explore this history.
Afterward, there will be an opportunity to take a look at the expansion building that the State Building and Real Estate Office is constructing for the university, which is set to open its doors next year.
Guided tour with Frank Ivemeyer, Chancellor
Carmen Alina Botezatu, SBL, Rostock Division
Ralf Mulsow, Rostock’s city archaeologist, will provide insight into the archaeological investigations that took place on the construction site from 2022 to 2023.
