With more than 100 photographs by photographer Rolf Nobel, the special exhibition WORKERS OF THE SEA offers extraordinary insights into a wide variety of maritime working environments.
From June 5 to September 20, 2026, more than 100 impressive photographs by renowned photographer Rolf Nobel will provide extraordinary insights into maritime working environments. His photographs show people whose lives and work have been closely linked to the sea for decades, such as fishermen, shrimpers, seaweed harvesters and lighthouse keepers.
The photographs show the often harsh everyday life at sea and in coastal regions as well as the special bond between man, ship and sea. The photographs were often taken under difficult conditions on four continents, including Scotland, Italy, Senegal, Belgium and South-East Asia.
The exhibition focuses on traditional maritime professions that have shaped the life and culture of coastal regions in many places for centuries. At the same time, it addresses the changes and challenges facing these working environments today, such as changing environmental conditions or the transformation of the fishing industry.
With his exhibition, Rolf Nobel has created an impressive photographic monument to people whose work often remains hidden and yet is still of great importance for life by the sea and the supply of many regions of the world.
