Summer cinema under the stars

As the sun sets over the Bodden, the harbors, and the Baltic Sea, the season of open-air nature films and special encounters begins on Fischland-Darß-Zingst. The Nature Film Nights offer a preview of the 22nd Darß Nature Film Festival, which will take place from October 6 to 11, 2026, on the Baltic Sea peninsula.

Film: “H for Hawk”
When Helen’s beloved father dies, she is overcome with deep grief and loses herself in memories of the time they spent together birdwatching and exploring nature. Obsessed with the idea of training a hawk herself, she brings the imposing bird, Mabel, to her home in Cambridge.
Determined to face the arduous process of taming one of the wildest animals, Helen fills her freezer with food and turns off her phone. But as she tries to teach Mabel to hunt and fly on her own, she realizes just how much she has neglected her own feelings and her life.

Based on the international bestseller and the award-winning memoir by Helen Macdonald, “H is for Hawk” tells a true story of a stirring journey exploring the connection between humans and nature—and how love can help us overcome loss.
