Public guided tour of the concentration camp memorial site
The city of Neubrandenburg offers public guided tours of the Neubrandenburg subcamp, "Waldbau".
History of the camp
Between 1943 and 1945, around 7,000 women and girls from all over Europe were forced to work for the German armaments industry in Neubrandenburg. The women came from the Ravensbrück concentration camp and were taken to the Neubrandenburg subcamp. There they worked in the mechanical workshops, where armaments were manufactured for Nazi Germany.
The "Waldbau" site of the subcamp was built in Nemerower Holz - semi-underground and camouflaged to protect it from air raids. Production and prisoner accommodation were combined in one complex. The work and living conditions were very difficult and dangerous for the imprisoned women, many of whom did not survive.
Guided tour and visit
Only a few traces of the historical site are still visible today, but the foundations in the forest give an impressive insight into the history of the place. The guided tour of the "Waldbau" concentration camp memorial site allows visitors to experience the events at the historical site.
For security reasons, the memorial site is only accessible as part of a guided tour. Access is not accessible. In the event of forest fires, storms or extreme weather conditions, the tour must be canceled for safety reasons.

The guided tours are financially supported by the State Center for Political Education M-V.
