The sea in opera, song and shanty
The deadline has passed - the captain climbs ashore as pathetically as he does every seven years: the Flying Dutchman wants to find the girl who will save him and the whole crew from the eternal odyssey across the seven seas. No one on board believes in this miracle any more. 400 years or almost 60 attempts simply dull the senses. But tonight the helmsman can let off a little steam and spin a yarn. They have sailed in the Irish Sea with Tristan, near New Zealand with the supply ships of the Wellerman shipping company, around Crete in the days of the young Mozart, off Madagascar, up the Elbe and, of course, to the place where the curse originated: Cape Horn.
An evening with soloists from the music theater ensemble full of great opera, art songs about the sea and rousing shanties.
