Almost traditionally, the German Beach Ultimate Frisbee Championship is held on the beach in Warnemünde. Men and women play together in the mixed division. The Rostock club Endzonis competes in the first and second divisions. They are not only playing for the national title, but also for qualification for international competitions next year.
In 2026, the best German teams in Beach Ultimate Frisbee will once again meet to play the German Championship on the beach in Warnemünde. 26 teams from all over Germany are expected to take part. The teams will compete against each other in the first, second and third divisions of the mixed division. The tournament is organized and hosted by Rostock-based Endzonis Ultimate Frisbee e.V. in cooperation with the German Frisbee Sports Association and the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Frisbee Sports Association.
The championship tournament will take place on the weekend of May 9-10 at Strandaufgang 1 in Warnemünde. While the best starting position will be contested in group stages on Saturday, the finals and placement matches will take place on Sunday. Not only will the national title, promotion and relegation be contested, but also qualification for upcoming international tournaments. At the same time, the championship for the women's and open divisions will take place at Berlin's Müggelsee.
The Rostock Endzonis will be competing in Warnemünde with two teams in the first and second divisions. "The competition is fierce and we will see some top-class matches," says Gabriel zum Winkel, looking ahead with excitement. The Endzonis CEO is convinced that "both local teams can achieve a lot if they fulfill their potential". Anyone interested can watch live on site to see whether they will win the title. Admission is free and it is also possible to throw a frisbee together between the games.
What is Ultimate?
Ultimate Frisbee is a running-intensive team sport and is played with a disc that must be caught in the opponent's end zone in order to score a point. The disc may only be moved by passing it to a teammate. If the disk falls to the ground or an opposing player prevents a pass, the opposing team is in possession of the disk. Five people per team play on the beach, men and women together, with players allowed to swap in and out after each point.
Ultimate is an entertaining team sport without referees and follows the spirit of the game. It is played as fairly as possible and without physical contact. Violations of the rules are reported by the players themselves and punished according to the best possible knowledge of the rules. This principle of fair play characterizes Ultimate Frisbee right up to the highest leagues and championships.
Endzonis Ultimate Frisbee e. V. was founded in 1993 by three students from the University of Rostock and has since made a name for itself in the German and even European Ultimate scene. The sport of Ultimate not only unites through the joy of the game and the sporting challenge, but also through the strong community beyond the sport.
