NDR Info is bringing the ARD debate series “Mitreden! Deutschland diskutiert” to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Have a say, contribute ideas, help shape the future—the audience takes center stage

Many people in Germany view the state of our democracy with concern. At the same time, some are growing increasingly doubtful that politics is up to the current challenges. Why is that—and are we perhaps expecting too much from a system that requires time, compromise, and commitment? How can new confidence be fostered, and what contribution can each and every individual make?

Under the title “Democracy Under Pressure: How Can Trust Be Rebuilt?”, citizens in Rostock will discuss the future of democracy in Germany live with guests from politics, the media, and civil society.

Adrian Feuerbacher, NDR Editor-in-Chief:
“‘Mitreden! Deutschland diskutiert’ brings the issues that matter to many people to where they belong: into direct conversation. Especially in times when trust in politics and institutions cannot be taken for granted, we want to listen even more, ask questions, and bring different perspectives to light. This works best on the ground. I look forward to a direct exchange in Rostock—to your questions, your experiences, and your opinions. Join us!”

Direct dialogue with politics and society

"Mitreden!" isn’t just about the opinions of experts; the live audience asks the questions and shares their views. NDR Info host Nina Zimmermann will guide the evening.

These guests will engage in the discussion and answer questions from the audience:

  • Anne Rabe, a multi-award-winning writer born in Wismar, writes plays, screenplays, and essays; her prose debut, “Die Möglichkeit von Glück” (The Possibility of Happiness), about a post-reunification youth, was shortlisted for the German Book Prize in 2023
  • Silvio Witt, Ombudsman of the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and former Mayor of Neubrandenburg (independent)
  • Marieke Reimann, author, host, and journalist, including as deputy editor-in-chief at SWR (2021–2024) and editor-in-chief of ze.tt (2015–2020), a native of Rostock
