Two graduates of the Hamburg Drama School make their way to the small-town theater in Parchim.
A film about young people and making theater outside the big cities: the small town of Parchim in Mecklenburg has a hospital, the district administration office, a little industry, commerce - and its own theater. Founded by the Soviet commandant's office in 1945, shortly after the end of the war, it flourished in the 1960s and 1970s as a three-section theater with its own choir and small orchestra. At the beginning of the film in 2020, the former "Graf Moltke" hotel, which houses the theater, is almost ready for demolition. The large auditorium is closed off by the building authorities, while the Malsaal serves as a makeshift stage for rehearsals and performances. As you walk through the theater, the dusty chandeliers and the worn plush of the seats inevitably make every guest feel melancholy. Lots of old costumes and crammed shoe racks hark back to good times that will never return. At this time, Arikia Orban and Gesa Penthin join the Parchim theater as graduates of a Hamburg drama school, where eight actors and another 20 employees work. Over two and a half years, the film accompanies the two young women in their artistic work in the provinces.
