The Berlin trio has made the music of the outstanding composer and swing pianist Duke Ellington its own, and has cleverly and respectfully adapted it for vocals.
The outstanding composer and pianist Duke Ellington's compositions and his special brand of swing were influential for decades. His musical tradition is rooted in African-American gospel and blues.
The Berlin trio "catfish row"has made the music of this outstanding composer its own and arranged it for itself in a sophisticated but respectful way. The result is a new, equally unmistakable sound that remains close to the original even in this line-up. At the center of "catfish row" is the charismatic and versatile voice of jazz singer Anett Levander, who is accompanied by Christian Raake on saxophone/flute and Dirk Steglich on bass clarinet.
Concertgoers can expect a cross-section of Duke Ellington's oeuvre - from the dance music of the 1930s from the Cotton Club to excerpts from the "Far East Suite" and the "Sacred Concerts", which were among the most important compositions for Ellington in the last years of his life.
