An audio journey through the exhibition
The Kunsthalle Rostock is showing previously unpublished works on paper by Wolfgang Mattheuer from the years 1941 to 2002. The works come from the artist's estate managed by Galerie Schwind.
Many drawings document impressions of the Vogtland landscape as well as impressions of his travels at home and abroad. While Mattheuer's paintings are often metaphorically condensed, his drawings appear more open and often like personal snapshots. The exhibition thus opens up a new perspective on one of the most important artists of the GDR and co-founder of the Leipzig School.
