Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in E minor op. 64
Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 9 in D major (1908)After opening the season with Gustav Mahler's 7th, chief conductor Marcus Bosch concludes the series of Philharmonic concerts with the composer's 9th symphony - and it's time to say goodbye. Composed in Toblach and New York, this large-scale symphony is Mahler's last completed work. The then New York chief conductor looks back wistfully, says farewell and seems to capitulate with his visions. The result was an impressive and bold tonal edifice with which he built a world with all the means at his disposal - and ultimately reached the threshold of modernity.
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's rapturously beautiful Violin Concerto in E minor is heard at the beginning of the three evenings, an epitome of exuberance and happiness. The charismatic Spanish violinist Leticia Moreno, convincing with her virtuoso playing and deep expressiveness, makes her debut with it at the Philharmonic season finale in Rostock's Halle 207.
