Anne Evelyn is exhibiting at the Kunsthaus Lübz for the first time
What usually remains hidden becomes the starting point for a new work in Anne Evelyn’s practice. Lines that have pressed through the paper, faint traces of color, and seemingly unfinished reverse sides are not discarded. The artist takes them up, continues to work with them, and transforms an original fashion sketch into a two-sided artwork.
Anne Evelyn was born in Ludwigslust in 1983 and studied fashion design in Berlin. Afterward, her path led her in other directions for some time. Now she is returning to her creative roots: to fashion, to drawing, and to the joy of bringing an idea to life. With “LUPINALE,” she is exhibiting at the Kunsthaus Lübz for the first time.
Her drawings straddle the line between fashion illustration and free artistic expression. Delicate, exploratory lines meet translucent swaths of color. Contours overlap; figures remain open-ended and seem to still be in motion. Yet this apparent incompleteness is not a flaw. It preserves the traces of the creative process and becomes the material for a second perspective.
The small-format works hang freely in the space and can be viewed from both sides. There is no longer a fixed front or back. Anyone who wants to see the other side must change their vantage point. In this way, the presentation extends beyond the individual sheet and takes on the character of a site-specific work.
Anne Evelyn’s approach directly corresponds to the concept of the Kunsthaus: existing elements are not discarded, but rather revisited, transformed, and placed in a new context. An overlooked reverse side does not merely yield a secondary image, but rather a work with its own impact—a form of artistic reuse.
Her personal return to creative work and the transformation of her old designs are also interconnected. Both illustrate that a new beginning does not have to start from scratch. Sometimes the new is already present within what already exists and only becomes visible when we are ready to turn it over and view it from a different perspective. In this way, Anne Evelyn’s contribution resonates in a special way with the LUPINALE theme “Turning Point: Upheavals and Glimmers of Hope.”
