Dr. Schattinger will give a lecture on the life and work of the author A. Glaßbrenner on the occasion of the day of remembrance of the book burning.
In his richly illustrated, popular science lecture, Dr. Schattinger traces the arc from the bans imposed on Adolf Glaßbrenner and his work in the German Confederation, in Prussia and in Mecklenburg-Strelitz to the author's life and work. The focus will be on the most important writings produced in Neustrelitz, his work in the Neustrelitz Trade Association and the archival discovery (2024) of a previously unknown speech on public libraries. In addition, the lecture sheds light on Glaßbrenner's involvement in the Neustrelitz Reform Association and the Sociable Association for Political and Social Education, his expulsion from the country by Grand Duke Georg (1850) and his political and social dreams - the complete realization of which is still a long way off, even 150 years after his death.
