Exhibition
In Esther Wüstenberg's works, we encounter the universe not as a strict order, but as a mischievous player.
Trained in restoration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden - after studying theology and philosophy - she combines intellectual depth with technical precision. She deliberately draws on historical painting techniques and uses pigments, glues and binders that have been telling stories for centuries for her small and large panel paintings. Her choice of painting surface is particularly characteristic. She collects what others overlook or throw away: Wallpaper remnants, discarded pieces of furniture, wooden frames, textiles. Found objects from the roadside or bulky garbage become poetic image carriers, with visible signs of lived time.
Despite this profundity, her visual language remains cheerful. Humor and lightness pervade her work. Beauty is not pathos here, but an inner attitude and a commitment to wonder.
"The universe is a prankster" - it leaves traces, we pick them up. The interplay of past and present, of found objects and gilding, seriousness and cheerfulness shows that life loves transformation and sometimes winks at us in the process.
