dokumentART Presents: Go Clara Go – The Art of Creative Resistance
On October 7, 2026, dokumentART will screen the documentary “Go Clara Go: The Art of Creative Resistance” by Sylvie Kürsten, followed by a discussion at the Neubrandenburg Regional Library.
A little over 50 years ago, a group of artists declared the former socialist model city of Chemnitz/Karl-Marx-Stadt an avant-garde happening zone. Through performances, art festivals, open-air events, and collaborative art projects, the Clara Mosch group and the Galerie Oben proved that artistic freedom was possible even in the GDR.
The film takes viewers into the subcultural art scenes and lifestyles of the GDR and tells a story of creative self-assertion, courage, and the power of art as a form of resistance. The subsequent discussion with the director and one of the protagonists will focus on memory, female perspectives, and the question of what role art can play in society and social change.
