From May 7 to 10, 2026, the Kunsthalle Rostock's Schaudepot will be the venue for a special experiment as part of the YES AI CAN festival. AI is the interface between "art", technology and society: an artificial intelligence has been commissioned to develop the project as a curator with around 30 "works".
The brief for the AI was to independently create "works of art" in the genres of painting, graphics and photography. The greatest possible freedom was deliberately allowed in the choice of stylistic periods, artistic forms of expression and visual languages. Each work was to have its own title and details of the technique. The works are presented partly as prints on canvas and framed, partly digitally on two flatscreens.
The project poses central questions of our time: Can artificial intelligence curate? What role does authorship play when works are not created by human hands but by algorithmic processes? And how does AI change our view of creative work, originality and artistic decisions?
In addition to the works presented, the project also includes an interactive part for visitors. This invites visitors to see AI not just as a technical tool, but to engage in a dialog with the "art" created by AI.
