Bad Kleinen station in the municipality of the same name is one of the oldest and most important railroad stations in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and also a railroad junction where the lines to and from Wismar, Grevesmühlen/Lübeck, Schwerin and Bützow/Güstrow/Rostock converge.

The village of Kleinen (the addition "Bad" was awarded in 1915) got its train station in 1848 with the extension of the Hagenow Land-Schwerin railroad line to Wismar, which had opened a year earlier. The station became nationally known in 1993 when the police tried to arrest RAF members Birgit Hogefeld and Wolfgang Grams. In the process, Grams and GSG-9 officer Michael Newrzella were fatally shot in an exchange of gunfire on one of the platforms. There are no platforms at the station building; all platforms can only be reached through a platform tunnel. Ticket office and catering facilities in the station building were closed in the 1990s. It now serves only operational purposes.

From 2016 to the end of 2018, reconstruction measures took place. The station was renovated and modernized.
