The Royal Pedagogy was built from 1833-1836 by Prince Wilhelm Malte I zu Putbus according to plans by Johann Gottfried Steinmeyer.
The Pädagogium zu Putbus was a grammar school with alumnat (school home) founded in Putbus on the island of Rügen in 1836. Located directly at the Putbusser Circus in a classicist building that helped shape the townscape, the educational institution was first a royal and then, from 1919, a state pedagogy, a higher educational institution of excellent reputation. The local population called it "Pädschen", the students called themselves "Pädschler". In 1941 it was transformed into a national political educational institution. From 1946 to 1975, teachers were trained in this place, before the house housed a special education institution for the hearing impaired until 2000. From 2002 to 2014, a higher vocational school for information technology was located in the building, the IT College Putbus.
