The place owes its special fame to the university professor, writer and publicist Ernst Moritz Arndt (1769 - 1860), who was born here.
The late Baroque manor house was completed in its present form shortly before 1750. The building is one-story, seven-axis and has a red crippled hipped roof. The high granite base, modest decorative elements and the adjacent park wall give it a special charm.
Today, Arndt's birthplace houses the office of the supra-regional Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Gesellschaft e.V., founded in 1992, which organizes regular readings, a variety of lectures and art exhibitions. The house has long since become one of the most important Rügen meeting places for locals and guests, art and history lovers. Between 1997 and 2003, the Arndt Society carried out the restoration of the house and the adjacent park. The park invites you to linger and stroll in any season. The hall can be rented for group or family celebrations. Special tours and lectures for groups are offered.
