With more than 300 public events per year, the Rostock University of Music and Theatre enriches the cultural life of the Hanseatic city and the region. In addition to its events, its historic building, formerly a Franciscan monastery dating from the mid-13th century, is an attraction.
Founded in 1994, the Rostock University of Music and Drama is one of the most sought-after training centers in Europe for artistic professions and attracts students from all over the world to the Hanseatic city. It trains musicians, actors and music educators. Currently, 500 students from nearly 40 nations are enrolled. With more than 300 public events per year, the university enriches the cultural life of Rostock and the region. Its building in the eastern part of the old town is also a special attraction. Since 2001, it has been located in the St. Katharinenstift, a former Franciscan monastery from the mid-13th century, which, after its restoration, offers exceptionally beautiful premises with its cloisters, a large concert and theater hall with full stage, with organ hall and chamber music hall, recording studios and library.
