Historical Buildings, Churches

The small church, whose fieldstone choir probably dates back to the late 12th century, is idyllically located on the outskirts of Neuenkirchen.

Like most churches in the area, the small fieldstone church of Neuenkirchen sits enthroned on a hill above the village. From the churchyard, the view sweeps into an idyllic little valley and into the quaint village center with its numerous old farmhouses and the avenue.

The nave and the belfry were added to the medieval choir in the 17th century. The 18th century bronze bell hangs in a low wooden belfry and comes from Lübeck.

The small church has a bright, inviting interior. On display are a pre-rectangular altar shrine, a carved triumphal cross group and an Anna Selbdritt group, an old box pew, some old tombstones from the 17th and 18th centuries ,as well as a colorful modern stained glass window and remnants of the medieval painting.

The former inner-German border strip, the "Green Belt", is virtually predestined to be further enhanced by the creation of new forest areas. So it was only logical to add another climate forest to the existing ones in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern from summer 2010. The first planting campaign took place in April 2011. The total area consists of three parcels of land, two of which were reforested as part of the planting campaign with the Schwerin energy supplier WEMAG.
