Parks and Gardens

The English landscape park in Dammereez was created at the beginning of the 19th century and is one of the oldest manor parks in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Due to its very old stock of trees and shrubs, it is one of the most valuable dendrological gardens in Mecklenburg.

The English are known for their beautiful gardens and parks, which are designed according to what nature has to offer in terms of views. There are also some English landscape parks in Meckenburg-Vorpommern, such as the one in Dammereez. Here, golden oak and cucumber magnolia, bald cypress and hanging spruce, copper beech and sycamore maple line up and surprise visitors with numerous views and vistas. In between, other exotics can be found, such as three sequoia trees about 150 years old or the Japanese sickle fir. The landscape park was created at the beginning of the 19th century, incorporating the existing woody plants of the already existing estate park. Several very old trees, including a number of approximately 400 year old pedunculate oaks and ash trees, indicate the approximate age of the former estate park, which is now one of the most valuable dendrological gardens in Mecklenburg. The most impressive tree is a common ash about 400 years old, which is 38 meters high and has a circumference of 4.6 meters.
The Förderverein Dammereezer Park e. V., founded in 1998, takes care of the preservation and maintenance of the English landscape park. In recent years, more than 100 trees and shrubs have been replanted and the original species have been restored. Benches, a display and information board at the entrance and the signposting of 88 particularly valuable trees with their German, Latin and English names, the installation of a fountain and a pavilion are among the results of the successful work. Guided tours are offered upon request. The Dammereezer Park is open all year round and the visit is free of charge.
