Monuments and Sights, Historical Buildings

On a total of three exhibition levels, visitors have the opportunity to learn about the different temporal epochs on the regional perspective of the history of political persecution in the 20th century: 1933 - 1945, 1945 - 1953 and 1953 - 1989.

On June 6, 2001, the Demmlerplatz Documentation Center was ceremonially opened by the German President. It currently houses the permanent exhibition on the regional perspective of the history of political persecution in the 20th century. The largest part of the former cell wing serves as exhibition space for the Documentation Center.

On a total of three exhibition levels, visitors have the opportunity to learn about the different temporal eras of the historical site:
1933 - 1945, 1945 - 1953, and 1953 - 1989.

The Documentation Center is open to the public with restrictions.
Individual visit: by phone appointment Tuesdays to Fridays.

The former ducal residence palace with the surrounding palace park and the historic estate ensemble is one of the most beautiful places on Lake Schwerin. The art exhibition in the castle is particularly worth seeing. With its location on a steep bank directly on the lake, it is considered an insider's tip for excursions, especially in autumn and in spring during the rhododron bloom. The old nursery houses a farm store and a popular farm café.
