A new promotional video from the Heimatverband showcases 13 forms of intangible cultural heritage in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern—through striking images

A new promotional film by the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Heritage Association showcases the diversity of the region’s intangible cultural heritage. Through striking imagery, viewers encounter people who keep traditions alive, preserve crafts and knowledge, make music, and celebrate festivals together. Accompanied by music, the film lets the images speak for themselves—without any explanatory words.

The footage makes it clear: Intangible cultural heritage is not a thing of the past. It lives on through the people who practice, nurture, and pass it on. It manifests itself in a wide variety of forms and is part of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s cultural wealth.

The participants had the opportunity to watch the film even before its release. One of them reported afterward that she got goosebumps while watching it. A personal reaction that gives a sense of the significance these living traditions hold for the people who passionately preserve and carry them forward.

And now it’s your turn: Can you recognize all 13 forms of intangible cultural heritage in the film?

Take a close look and discover the diversity of our living traditions. Perhaps you’ll come across something familiar—a cultural practice that you yourself know, practice, or associate with personal memories. The film invites you to take a closer look and rediscover the cultural treasures of our state.

With this release on the occasion of the International Day for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Heimatverband aims to draw attention to this diversity and honor the people who preserve and develop it.

The film was produced by Rabauke Filmproduktion on behalf of the Heimatverband Mecklenburg-Vorpommern e. V. It was funded by the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, represented by the Ministry of Science, Culture, Federal, and European Affairs of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Please feel free to share the promotional video so that the diversity of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s intangible cultural heritage reaches as many people as possible.
It can be viewed at traditionen-in-mv.de as well as on the Heimatverband Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s social media channels on Instagram and Facebook.
