Ensemble VocaMe: Works by Hadewijch & Christine de Pizan
In this concert, the ensemble VocaMe traces the voices of outstanding women of the Middle Ages - personalities whose art, thought and spirituality still have an impact today. Alongside heartfelt minstrel songs by the Brabant poetess Hadewijch, ballads by Christine de Pizan, the first female French writer, will be heard. Pizan's texts are still read today and are regarded as groundbreaking for thinking about women and their role in society. In Hadewijch's works, the human experience of love merges with a reverent love of God.
Four singers with enchanting melodiousness, a wide range of polyphonic singing and the sound colors of the instrumental ensemble form the musical signature of the ensemble VocaMe. As in a laboratory, found objects from the Middle Ages are examined and dusted off - like restorers, the colors are refreshed and experiments are carried out with the uncovered musical frameworks and melodies.
The program series "Women at Court" is a tribute to Princess Wilhelmine of Hesse-Kassel on her 300th birthday: Who was the woman who was married to the Prussian Prince Heinrich of Rheinsberg? The concerts are an invitation to reflect on female personalities like her while enjoying art - on those who stood in the shadows and yet made their own decisions, took responsibility and left their mark. Wilhelmine thus becomes the namesake for the "Wilhelmines" of today: women who seek their own way between social expectations and their own voice.
"Women at Court" is a cooperation with the "Conversations at the Rheinsberg Muses Court 2026" of the Rheinsberg Art and Culture Association.
